Warehouse Complex

Hamburg's Warehouse Complex, the oldest and the largest in the world, is called Speicherstadt in German. Warehouse complex, consisting of gables and turrets, represents the nuances of Gothic architecture. Made up of red bricks, the complex is one of the major attractions in the city of Hamburg.

Warehouse complex of Hamburg is located in the historic Free Port area between Baumwall and Deichtorhallen. Ferry services, shuttle buses and other means of transportation can be availed to visit the complex. Various tour packages in Hamburg also take tourists to the warehouse complex. Charters can also be availed for visiting the warehouse complex.

Speicherstadt, which is one hundred years old, is still used as a storehouse for goods collected from various parts of the world. Inside the warehouse complex are stored goods like tea, coffee, tobacco, cocoa, spices, computers, Oriental carpets etc. It is the world's largest storehouse of Oriental carpets.
Over the years, the warehouse complex in Hamburg has also gained the status of a popular tourist attraction by the inclusion of various features. Tourists get to know more about the spices that were stored in this warehouse from the Spice Museum located in the complex. They can also enjoy plays and performances in the open air theater. Besides, the warehouse complex also houses an exhibition and a Russian submarine.

A significant aspect of the warehouse complex is the "Hamburg Dungeon". This feature gives the tourists an insight to Hamburg history, highlighting the dark phases of the city's past. As dusk sets in, the complex gets lit up, thus providing a visual splendor. Night tours of the harbor are available that offers a view of Speicherstadt from the boat.

A tour of Hamburg remains incomplete without a visit to the Warehouse complex.
