Transmitter Hamburg-Billstedt, owned and governed by Norddeutscher Rundfunk, facilitates broadcasting in the city of Hamburg. Norddeutscher Rundfunk is a public broadcasting service station that also provides transmission services in other states of Germany. Transmitter Hamburg-Billstedt in Hamburg was installed in the year 1934.
The transmission tower had several aerials for the purpose of transmission. The first few were destroyed at various points of time after the construction of Transmitter Hamburg-Billstedt. New aerials were built to replace the old ones. In 1949 a framework made of steel was set up at a height of 198 meters. This contained a cage aerial as well as a transmission aerial for radio and television. The transmission from these aerials was done through a Goubot line.

first few years of 1960s.This installation comprised a guyed mast made of steel tube for television and FM transmission, a guyed mast radiator for transmission of medium waves and a guyed framework of steel used for the purpose of transmission of medium waves.
Transmitter Hamburg-Billstedt is being used by the University of Hamburg since 1967. The university uses the transmission tower as a base for meteorological measurements. Various instruments of measurement like thermometers, anemometers and hygrometers have been put up at different levels of the tower. Data collected through these media are used for the calculation of heat flow and flow of momentum.
As a tourist attraction, the Transmitter Hamburg-Billstedt is a big crowd puller. The features and technicalities of the transmission tower are interesting to observe.
