The ingredients needed to make Hamburg Soup are as follows:
- One pound of minced beef
- One and half cups of diced potatoes
- One and half cups of diced onions
- One and half cups of diced celery
- One cup of diced carrots
- One cup of finely chopped cabbage
- One cup of chopped tomatoes
- One bay leaf
- Six bouillon cubes

- One-fourth cup of rice
- One and half quarts of water
- One basil
- Four teaspoonful salt
- One-eighth teaspoonful black pepper
The steps to prepare Hamburg Soup are as follows:
Step 1: Heat pan. Put the onions and meat and stir with a fork till brown. This stirring breaks the meat into fragments.
Step 2: Put the diced vegetables, except the cabbage, in the pan.
Step 3: Pour the water in a large pot and heat. Add the meat along with the seasonings in the pot.
Step 4: Bring the entire content of the pot till boiling hot, reduce flame and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
Step 5: Add the rice to the mixture. Leave to simmer for 45 minutes.
Step 6: Put in the chopped cabbage. Stir continuously for about 45 minutes.
Step 7: Serve the Hamburg Soup garnished with grated cheese.
