Ice World

One of the most important events in Germany, the Ice World festival in Hamburg is organized in the Lübeck region. Its rather a visual treat to watch artists of international fame craft their imagination onto the cold blocks of ice.

Held every year in the month of December, the Ice World festival is awaited both by the tourists as well as the local people of Hamburg. Ice sculptors from various corners of the world come to Hamburg to participate in this event. Kept for display in a tent besides the Trave river, the ice figurines reflect the potential craftsmanship of the artists in various sizes ranging from miniature to life size.

It is estimated that around 350,000 kilogram of ice and 150,000 kilogram of snow come into use to create these splendors. A temperature as low as -0 degree centigrade is maintained inside the ice world to
preserve the ice works. The Ice World remains open on all days from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 9pm while on Sunday, it remains open from 10am to 8pm.

Youngsters indulge themselves in skating in the skating rinks, which have a surface area of 600 square meters. There are separate amusement rinks for young kids too, who can try their skills in the sports without incurring any harm on themselves. The ice skating rink is open on all weekdays from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 9 pm. On Sunday, it is open from 10am to 8 pm. Apart from these events, the Ice World Festival is also a haven for gourmets and food lovers.

You can exercise your taste buds in the restaurants of the Ice World that are expansive in culinary delicacies. Whether it is a cup of hot chocolate or a pint of wine, the restaurants in the Ice World could be the best retreat for the visitors after a long enthusiastic day in the rink.
