Binnenalster

Binnenalster or Inner Alster in Hamburg is a man-made lake, which is watered by the River Alster. River Alster is a tributary of River Elbe. The square shaped river basin of Binnenalster has a total expanse of 18 hectares. One of the most attractive places in Hamburg, the Binnenalster is enclosed by streets like Ballindamm, Jungfernstieg and Neuer Jungfernstieg, which are lined up with shopping plazas and departmental stores. Located by the side of Lombardsbrücke and close to the Outer Alster, the
Binnenalster was separated from the outer Alster when the city was fortified in the 17th century.

Visitors coming to Binnenalster are mesmerized by the innate beauty and the immaculate picturesqueness of the place. The main attraction of Binnenalster is the centrally laid fountain called the Alster fountain that reaches up to a height of 35 meters. A gingerly walk around the circumference of the Binnenalster is the best way to spend an evening while exploring the vicinity.
