Mass Transit: The public transportation in Dortmund city consists of buses and trams. The organization that runs these is called Dortmund City Works. The buses in the area have service two to six times every hour on weekdays. Trams and trains have more frequent service. The schedules for the buses and trains may be found on the stations or on the Internet. During the nights, a special bus service called Nacht Express runs in the city.

Airports: Dortmund city is served by the Dortmund Airport, also known as Flughafen Dortmund in German. Dortmund Airport is an important hub in the eastern Ruhr region. Dortmund Airport is now linked to major international airports such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, and Paris. Dortmund Airport is equipping itself to come up to the increased traffic requirements. The taxis charge two types of fares - the day fare is from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The night fare is from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The starting fare for the taxis is €2.50, with €1.45 for the next kilometer, and then €1.15 every kilometer thereafter. Taxis can be ordered by phone from a central hiring agency, called Taxizentrale (Ph: 14 44 44).

Dortmund Inland Port: The Dortmund Harbor is the largest canal harbor in Europe. This harbor is the center for industry, trade, and transportation for this region of Europe. Dortmund Harbor is the European hub for cargo and freight distribution. It's an important part of the economy of Dortmund city.
