Berlin Transport


The highly developed and well structured Berlin transport network incorporates several means of transportation. The spectrum of transport in Berlin includes Metro (U-Bahn), Trains Suburban (S-Bahn), Coach System, Ferries and Trams. S-Bahn and U-Bahn are very frequently available within the urban area of Berlin. Other than these, Metro Buses and Metro Trams in Berlin serve regularly in all the corners of the city. At night, the transportation services in Berlin are not as frequent as during daytime. Only ‘carriage night’, S-Bahn and U-Bahn are available within a reasonable interval.

The transportation network of Berlin is expanded through a great region of Berlin and its outskirts.
The region covered by Berlin transport system is divided into certain areas which are follows:
  • ‘Area A’- This is the central urban region of Berlin and is known as the S-Bahn ‘Circular route’.
  • ‘Area B or Zone B’- This zone signifies the area within Berlin.
  • ‘Area C’- This area covers the outskirts of Berlin upto ten to fifteen kilometers area around Berlin.
Some of the busiest Berlin railway stations are, Ostbahnhof, Pariser Kommune, Lehrter Bahnhof and Bahnhof Lichtenberg, Weitlingstrasse (Lichtenberg). To tackle the heavy flow of daily commuters, trains leave at frequent intervals from these stations.
