Berlin Rivers


Berlin rivers like Havel and Spree, along with some other waterbodies, constitute the landscape of Berlin. With six different canals, Berlin has become one of the important commercial centers in the country.

The Berlin rivers along with the canals account for 180 kilometers of waterways and the lakes comprise 3000 hectares of the total landscape. The Spree River in Berlin is a left tributary of River Havel and stretches across an expanse of 403 kilometers. It later converges with Havel in the western quarters of Berlin. Towns like Bautzen, Cottbus, Lübbenau, Spremberg, Lübben, Fürstenwalde and Berlin are located on the banks of River Spree.
Havel is another important river in Berlin that flows through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt. It is a tributary of River Elbe. The Havel is 325 kilometer long and is extended by the Canal Oder-Havel. Some of the important towns that are situated on its banks are Oranienburg,Zehdenick, Berlin, Potsdam, Brandenburg, Werder, Premnitz, Rathenow and Havelberg.
