Oberbaumbrucke

Stretched across the vast expanse of the River Spree, the Oberbaumbrucke is a bridge that proves to be the backbone of the economy of the city of Berlin and Germany as a whole. One of the most magnificent structures in Berlin, Oberbaumbrucke is also the largest bridge in Germany. Initially built of wood in the 18th century, the present Oberbaumbrucke bridge is the result of a number of renovations done over the years and it is now an example of excellent engineering and craftsmanship.

While the bridge was modified to be able to accommodate the growing pressure of traffic in Berlin, it was also made sure that it is crowned as one of the most beautiful structures incompetent in beauty. Visitors from all over the world now come
to take a glimpse of this Berlin attraction. One of the longest bridges in the country, it is also one of the most important sightseeing spots in Berlin.

Accommodating the heavy traffic of Berlin as well as the huge swell of population, the Oberbaumbrucke also has a subway or a U-Bahn for the pedestrians. One of the renowned architects and a prominent government official of Berlin, Otto Stahn came up with the spectacular double deckered design of the subway. The architectural beauty of the Oberbaumbrucke lies in the fact that North German gothic bricks were used to build the monument. Enhancing the beauty and the décor of the bridge are the towering arches and the coats of arm that are on display on the walls of the bridge. Having stood the test of time, the Oberbaumbrucke is now a architectural heritage of Berlin.
