Berlin Metro, which is known as the U-Bahn or the underground railways, is the most expansive underground network in Berlin. The U-Bahn is maintained with immense efficiency and expertise by an organization called the BVG. Berlin is segregated into three fare zones and the tickets can be bought for a particular fare zone or multiple zones. There is a random check by the ticket collectors inside the trains and the passengers found guilty of traveling without ticket are heavily penalized in the form of monetary fines.
