Berlin has celebrated the 34th Berlin Marathon in 2007. More than 40,210 participants took part in the 2007 event. The 2007 Berlin Marathon is significant because in this event Haile Gebrselassie, the great Ethiopian runner, finished his race in unparalleled time limit, 2 hours, 4 minutes and 26 seconds. He has made a record by beating the previous record set by Paul Tergat. Paul Tergat from Kenia had ended his race in 2 hours 4 minutes and 55 seconds in the 2003 Berlin Marathon.
