A part of the 'culture forum' that was created after the Second World War, the Kulturforum became the cultural center of West Berlin after the bifurcation of East and West Berlin. The Museum Island, on the other hand, became an intricate part of the East Berlin cultural centers. Designed by Hans Bernard Scharoun, the Kulturforum was slated to be built in the vicinity of Tiergarten area of Berlin.
Constituting an array of museums and concert halls, the Kulturforum reflect the expertise of the creativity of the designer. The Philharmonic Hall was the first built in the year 1963. Built on the lines of expressionist architectural style, the building is subtle in style. The interior décor of the Kulturforum holds the spectator mesmerised with some of its finest acoustics. With a capacity of accomodating 2000 people, the hall has a spectacular center stage that gives a uniform view from all corners of the hall.
In the successive years of 1967 and 1968, the Berlin Library of the Prussian Cultural Heritage and the New National Gallery were built
respectively as part

of the Kulturforum. The New National Gallery is also referred to as 'the temple of light and glass'. It was designed by Mies van der Rohe and shelves some of the unique collectibles like sculpture and painting from 20th century Europe.
The Kulturforum also houses the State Institute of Musical Research and the Musical Instrument Museum, both built in the 1980s. In the later part of the same year, the New Hall of Chamber Music was added to the previous two musical assets of the vicinity. The three of them together house some of the finest and rarest musical instruments from the 16th to the 21st centuries. Some of the other buildings that constitute the Kulturforum are the Kunstbibliothek or the Arts Library, Kupferstichkabinett or the Graphic Arts Museum and the Gemälderie or the Museum of Fine Arts.
Adding to the classy appeal of the Kulturforum is the St. Matthäus Church that was erected between 1844 and 1846. Kulturforum, one of the famous Berlin tourist attractions, provides a complete insight into the cultural heritage of the city of Berlin.
