Jazz Festival of Berlin


The Jazz Festival of Berlin is an important and significant cultural event which is organized in the city of Berlin during the month of November every year. It is a world famous event which celebrates the different styles of jazz and pays homage to the jazz culture of the world. The Jazz Festival of Berlin is a four-day long festival exclusively dedicated to jazz and it is the last cultural event on the cultural calendar of Berlin.

The history of the Jazz Festival in Berlin dates back to the year 1964 when it was first held in Berlin. Initially the Jazz Festival of Berlin was associated with Joachim Ernst Berendt who was known as ‘Jazz Pope’ in Germany and had brought the jazz musicians
from all over the world to an international platform.

For the last four decades it has been entertaining people through the rock concerts.

The various jazz shows organized at Berlin Jazz Festival range from wordjazz to cross-country fusion musicals. The festival aims at blending the boundaries between global music and local folk music patterns. Currently the festival has become an important platform for European jazz and is popularly known as ‘marathon of jazz’. In 2007 the Jazz Festival of Berlin was held from 31st October to 4th November and in 2008 it would be held from 6th to 9th November.
