International Literature Festival Berlin


The International Literature Festival Berlin is an extremely popular festival organized in the city of Berlin. This event is being celebrated annually since the year 2001. The International Literature Festival of Berlin is planned and managed by the Foundation for Art and Politics and the Berliner Festspiele Committee with additional support from UNESCO.

The festival is funded by the Capital-Culture-Fund. Ulrich Schreiber has been the director of the festival since its inception in 2001. This literary festival acts as a place where authors and writers from different cultural backgrounds come together to exchange their literary views and ideas.

The first International Literature Festival Berlin which was held in the year 2001 saw the participation
of about 6,000 visitors and the number has been growing with the passage of time.

The different events at the Festival include ‘Literatures of the World’, ‘International Children’s and Youth Literature’ and ‘Kaleidoscope’.

In the year 2007, the International Literature Festival Berlin saw an amalgamation of poets with varied backgrounds intermingling together. The festival which spanned over a period of twelve days saw 300 events and more than 100 authors introducing their new works. The festival also witnessed many political debates, prose and lyric speeches and papers and even filmed versions of some of these literary works. Many renowned authors from all over the world participated in this literary festival.
