Built towards the end of seventeenth century, Gendarmenmarkt is one of the most renowned squares that is famous for its beauty and laid-back charm. Initially a market place referred to as the Linden Markt, the Gendarmenmarkt is now a center for rendezvous of art and history. The three buildings that the Gendarmenmarkt square houses are Deutscher Dom, Französischer Dom and the Konzerthaus. A statue of the revered German poet Friedrich Schiller is situated at the center of the square.
Built in the year 1821 by one of the most famous German architects-Karl-Friedrich Schinkel, the Konzerthaus is one of the magnificent examples of German architecture. Presently, a concert hall and base to the Berlin Symphony Orchetra, the building was raised on the ruins of the National Theater.
The French Cathedral or the Französischer Dom was built between 1701 and 1705 by the Huguenot

community. Designed on the lines of Huguenot church that was situated in Charenton, but was destroyed in the year 1688, the Französischer Dom presently houses a museum, a viewing platform and a restaurant.
The German Cathedral or the Deutscher Dom is situated at the extreme south of the Gendarmenmarkt. Built in the year 1708, it was designed by Martin Grünberg. After a series of renovations and reconstructions, the German Cathedral presently houses a museum that provides a vivid insight into the history of Germany.
