Visualized by Karl Heinz Pepper, the idea of Europa Center was materialized by the joint efforts of two renowned architects, Professor Helmut Hentrich and Professor Egon Eiermann. The Europa Center is one of the main attractions of the city with its numerous shopping plazas.
Built in the year 1963, just after the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Europa Center had room for over 100 shopping stalls, pubs, restaurants and offices. Fully air-conditioned, the Europa Center also had an ice skating rink, referred to as the La New York’s Rockefeller Center.

The 123.5 meter high structure of Europa Center proves to be one of the most interesting Berlin tourist attractions. Some of the things to do in Europa Center, apart from shopping for souvenirs include:
- Visiting the Mercedes Star in Europa Center, which is 10 meters in diameter and rotates after every ten minutes
- Tiffany Café and the Lotus Fountain that is said to have replaced the ice skating rink
- Visiting the Heliport situated on the roof, which offers a seven minute flight package promising an ariel view of the city.
