Berlin Education


Berlin education is based on providing learning opportunities to all the children of the city and imparting specialized training to the young people so as to enable them to acquire jobs and employment. Education has an immense significance in the German life. The pre-schools in Berlin are extremely student friendly.

Schools in Berlin are both privately-owned and state-owned. According to Berlin education policy, education is compulsory for all children up to the age of 12 years. The public schools in Berlin offer free primary education up to the age of 10 years. At the age of 10 the major part of the Children of Berlin are screened for their skill and aptitude. After the screening they are sent to the following variety of schools according to their merits and talents:
  • Gymnasium (for academics)
  • Realshule/ Hauptshule (scheduled for vocational trades)
  • Gesamtschule (scheduled for all trades)
