Constitution of Berlin


The Constitution of Berlin was adopted by the House of Representatives on 8th June, 1995. It was made effective from 22nd October 1995. The Preamble is an overview of the Constitution of Berlin, which has been penned down to throw light on the articles and the constitutional policies in brief. The constitution is meant to administer the implementation of laws that oversee the peace, harmony and discipline of the city. Constitution of Berlin forms an important part of the operation of the Berlin Government.

The important sections of the constitution of Berlin that deal with laws concerning various aspects like politics, law and order and society are as follows:
  • Section I: This section in the constitution deals with the Fundamental Provisions.
Article 1 to 5 relate to the various policies concerned with Fundamental Provisions.
  • Section II: This section in the constitution deals with Basic Rights and State Aims (Article 6 to 37)
  • Section III: Deals with the Representation of the People (Article 38 to 54).
  • Section IV: Deals with the Government policies that include articles from 55 to58.
  • Section V: Deals with Legislation of the city of Berlin.
  • Section VI: Deals with the Administrative Apparatus and comprises of Articles 66 to 77
  • Section VII: Deals with Administration of Justice stated from Articles 78 to 84
  • Section VIII: Deals with Finance from articles 85 to 95
  • Section IX: Concerns the Transitional and Final Provisions as mentioned in details in articles 96 to 101.
