An important event in Berlin history, the Battle of Berlin began in the month of April in the year 1945 and continued till May of the same year. At the beginning of the year 1945, the Allied Powers comprising of America, Russia and Britain attacked Berlin taking advantage of the fact that the defense system of Berlin had suffered a huge blow after recurrent defeats in the battle of Kursk in Russia and successive battles in Africa. Before the Battle of Berlin could be declared over, Adolf Hitler committed suicide and an important chapter in the history of Germany came to an end. Five days after the Battle of Berlin came to an end, Germany submitted to Russia.

was on the basis of this determination that he declared Berlin a fortress.Trenches and hidden barricades were constructed to trap the oppositions and Berlin was turned into an impregnable city. But the preparations were not quite foolproof as Berlin fell easily to the attack of the Allied Powers.
Soviet Union's victory in the Berlin Battle was the result of the misconception of Hitler that the attack on the city would come to an end when the Allied powers would turn to internal squabbles. Another reason why Russia outdid Germany was because of its strong military force and incompetent artilleries in comparison to the fragile military administration in Germany. Russia gained full control on Berlin on 30th April 1945 by capturing Reichstag.
