Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace in Paris is one of the oldest aeronautical museum of the world. It works under the guidance and administration of the Ministry for Defense. It is an aeronautical museum displaying various planes and equipments. The museum sprawls over a huge area that can be divided into two zones. The first zone measures 125 000 sq. m that is located on the site of the old air terminal.
The second zone of Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace, is located on an old Air Force base covers an area of 130 000 sq. m.
Mission of Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace
The first mission of Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace is to conserve and enrich the collections of the museum and also display the historical and cultural heritage of the country in the field of aeronautics and space. The second mission of the museum is to conserve the site in memory of Le Bourget. This airfield was established in the year 1915, to execute the requirements of war.

The museum exhibits more than 150 aircrafts, and other materials dating back to the 16th Century. Some recent modern air and spacecraft are displayed in the museum including Concorde, Swiss and Russian rockets. Various documents related to aviation industry belonging to the period of Leonardo Da Vinci are also exhibited here. Some of the permanent exhibits of the museum are displayed in different halls. Agree is a hall which is dedicated to Harmony Sierra Delta and the prototype 001 which took its maiden flight in the year 1969. Tourists who are interested can have a close look at the interiors of a Boeing 747. The Hall Rosette of Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace is devoted to the chief fighters of the Air Force since the Fifties. It also displays a instructing model of the F1 Mirage.
