Paris Festivals


Paris festivals are celebrated throughout the year and they reflect the culture of the people of the city. The cultural festivals of Paris are excellent for learning about the variety of French music, food, cinema and much more. The biggest festivals of Paris that attract huge crowds are:
  • Paris Jazz Festival: This annual musical event takes place very summer, between the months of June and July. The concerts commence at 3 PM. Every weekend, 4 to 6 fabulous concerts are arranged. Viewers from various parts of the world come to enjoy European jazz in a natural surrounding of greenery and floral fragrance. Entry fees for the event are nominal, while for children below 7, entry is free. The1500 seats of the venue hardly take time to get occupied completely. Paris Jazz Festival 2007 was held between June 9 and July 29. The permanent venue of the jazz festival is the beautiful Parc Floral located in Route de la Pyramide, at Bois de Vincennes. Tourists can easily reach the venue by boarding bus (number 112) or by metro from the nearest metro station Château de Vincennes.

  • Paris Film Festival: The festival attracts not only tourists, but all film buffs of Paris. The festival is instrumental in promoting both the film industry of Paris as well as the country. The venue of the festival is the grand Cinéma Gaumont Marignan, located at Champs-Elysées.
Both budding as well as experienced filmmakers can participate in the festival as it is a great place for showcasing their talents as well as learning about the art of film making. The forthcoming film festival is slated to be held between March 13 to 16 in 2008. Some of the other popular Parisian festivals are:
  • Fête Nationale or Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14, is not only a national holiday but a great festival. On this day the residents of Paris enjoy the parade on the Champs-Elysées, watch the fireworks near the Eiffel Tower and dance close to the Bastille.

  • Paris Plages takes place between mid- July and mid-August. The Parisians rejoice along the banks of the Seine and there is lots of music and partying in the evenings.

  • Fête des Vendanges is celebrated during the 2nd weekend of October. The yearly festival of the Montmartre grape harvest results in lively music, fireworks and joyous parties.

  • Fête de la Musique on June 2, is a day when free musical concerts are arranged throughout Paris. This has been taking place since the 1980s.
Paris festivals are numerous and the inhabitants of the city celebrate them with a great deal of excitement and pomp.
