Delacroix Museum - a brief history
The history of the Delacroix Museum can be traced back to the days when painters Paul Signac and Maurice Denis tried to prevent the transformation of Delacroix's studio into a car parking area by founding the Society of Eugène Delacroix in 1932. The newly-formed Society first put the painter's house on rent, then tried to sell it for maintenance purposes. Unable to do so, the Society handed over the Delacroix's collection of paintings to the state of France for preserving them within a museum. The Eugène Delacroix National Museum in 1971 was thus, established in Paris.
