Its aim was to offer health care facilities to the people who traveled to France from America by physicians trained in the United States. The founding act of the American Hospital of Paris was signed in 1906 by Dr. Magnin, Mr. Van Bergen and seven other members of the American community. It was designated as a not-for-profit organization.
The first donations to the hospital by John H. Harjes, who was the president of the Board of Governors, led to the acquiring of property in Neuilly-sur-Seine in July 1907. The twenty-four bed hospital was finally inaugurated in September 1909 by such eminent people like
