The team belongs to the Nimes Olympique Club, which was referred as the Sporting Club Nîmois before the 1930s. At present, Nimes Olympique plays for the Championnat National, the 3rd level of French football. The dedicated fans of this football team are popularly known as the 'Gladiators'.

The earlier name of Nimes Olympique was Sporting Club Nîmois or SCN, which was established by Henri Monnier in the year 1901. In the beginning, the team was formed just for young Protestants. The team played FC Sète in 1908 and achieved the title of Champions of Languedoc. They had also qualified for the final round of the French championship. The activities of the club were suspended from April 15 in 1919 as a result of World War I. The team emerged as runners-up in 1925 in the South-East Championship. The club
was renamed Nimes Olympique in the year 1937.
