There are some conventional rules of bullfighting in Nimes. The bullfight show is opened with a 'paseo' or walk. Next, the toreros or bullfighters parade wearing bright and colorful costumes. The banderilleros and picadors follow the bullfighters. The fight starts when the bull enters the arena, where the bullfighter waits with his cape and tries to calm down the animal. In this ways he tries to control the bull. This is known as the 'passing phase'. During the second phase the picadors enter the field and provoke as well as injure the animals with lances. The next turn is of the banderilleros. They attack the beast with banderillas to provoke it. The last phase is the muleta phase, when the final death-blow is applied to the bull. Lastly horses and mules are brought in to carry the carcass.
