Mulhouse International Carnival is celebrated annually with great enthusiasm and mirth in the months of February and March. The International Carnival reflects the rich cultural heritage and traditional legacy of Mulhouse through the colorful processions, music, dance and festivals.
The indigenous associations make bright colored floats that portray the essence of the socio-cultural traditions of the local inhabitants of Mulhouse. The International Carnival attracts several tourists from all over Europe to experience the colorful festival of France.
The International Festival was observed with intense fervor and joy during the period from 1920 to 1935. The World War II had somewhat dampened the spirit of the Carnival.

However, in 1953, at the initiative of the members of the local groups of Mulhouse, the International Carnival was again celebrated with added passion.
The International Carnival of Mulhouse is influenced by Rhenish and Mulhouse traditions. According to age old customs, at the end of the long colorful procession the Queen along with her two Princes is given charge of the keys of Mulhouse.
The International Carnival of Mulhouse is marked by parties and revelry that takes place through out the night. Adults and children alike take part in the parties. The restaurants and bars remain open all through the night. The city is decorated with lamps and colorful floats.
Mulhouse International Carnival is one of the prominent festivals of France that brings to life the traditional culture of the city.
