Mulhouse

Mulhouse is a commune in eastern France. It is the largest town of Haut-Rhin. Mulhouse is the second largest town of Alsace after Strasbourg. The history of the town dates back to the 12th century, when it was a part of the southern Alsacian county of Sundgau in the Holy Roman Empire. The textile industry and tanning were expanded and after this, the town picked up fast on its development. Slowly, the chemical and engineering industries developed fast in the 18th century. The city has a well-developed Automobile industry with the Peugeot's Mulhouse factory, as the largest employer in Alsace.

Area & Location: The town is located in eastern France close to Swiss and German border. Two tributaries of the Rhine flow through Mulhouse. These tributaries are the Doller and the Ill. The city is located on 47°44'57?N latitude and 07°20'24?E longitude. The altitude of the city varies from 232 m - 338 m. The land area covered by Mulhouse is 22.18 square kilometer. According to 1999 census, the total population of the city is 110,359 with a density of 4,976 per square kilometer.

Places of Attraction: National Automobile Museum - the Schlumpf Collection is a popular museum of Mulhouse. Some places of interest in the city are Hutel de Ville, French National Railway Museum and Museum of Printed Textiles.
