Marseille Music


Marseille music, particularly the hip-hops and raps, are popular with the music lovers of the city. There are some famous music bands like the Massilia Sound System, IAM, Psy4 de la rime, 3eme Oeil and Fonky Family. The rap music of the place has drawn its inspiration from the American gangsta rap but blended it with Jamaican raga, blues and Flamenco. Massilia Sound System gave birth to a new form of reggae called ‘trobamuffin’. Some musical festivals take place from June to October.

Marseille music, especially the hip hops are very popular. There are a number of music bands in Marseille which have enriched the music of the city. One of the oldest bands of Marseille is the Massilia Sound System. It came into the scenario in 1980s and created an altogether new style of reggae known as ‘trobamuffin’.

Some of the other bands of Marseille are IAM, Psy4 de la rime, 3eme Oeil and Fonky Family. IAM was created in 1989 with the help of Massilia Sound System. La Fonky Family consists of 4 rappers and made their inception in the year of 1994. M’Roumbaba is a very popular rapper of Marseille city. The rap music of Marseille has got its inspiration from American gangsta rap. But here, it is a blend of Jamaican raga, blues and Flamenco.
