Marseille Education


Marseille has a systematic way of educating the students of all ages. Education starts at an early age of 3 years. The subjects and the hours of study are divided beforehand by the authorities so that all the subjects are given equal importance.

Education in Marseille is carried out in a very methodical manner and starts at a very early age. Marseille Education is obligatory for all the children aged between 6 and 16. The education system follows the curriculum that is fixed by the French Government.

The education system in Marseille is fixed beforehand in relation to the subjects that are to be taught and how much time to be devoted to each of the subjects. In Marseille, almost all children aged between two and half years and three years start attending schools. There are 462 primary schools in Marseille, out of which 226 are elementary, 232 are kindergarten and 4 are special schools.

Education pattern for the Marseille students

Nursery:

In the Nursery stage, the children are taught French, Mathematics, Art, and Music. A second language is also taught to the students along with studies related to citizenship. Sports is also made regular for the students.

Marseille Primary education:

Primary education in Marseille starts for the students
aged between 6 to 10 years. For these students 26 hours of study in school is compulsory. In Marseille, more than 3000 officers are on duty at primary level schools for various jobs like assisting the teachers, maintaining the premises and servicing of meals provided at schools.

In the primary level, the students attend school from Monday to Friday and Saturday morning. Testing and homework are regular for all the students. The general subjects that are taught in the classes are French literature and grammar, science, geography and history.

Post Primary education of Marseille:

The students after attaining 11 years of age are in the category of post primary education. For them, the school hours increase and at the age of 14 they receive grades that are based on class marks. From 15 to 18 years, the students have to study for bachelor’s degree. They have three choices of technical area, professional area or general stream, from where they can choose one stream of their choice. There are 32 public high schools administered by PACA Region and 55 public colleges at Marseille that are managed by General Council of Bouches-du-Rhone.

Marseille University studies:

University education starts for the students of Marseille after they attain 19 years of age. In the university level, some courses are made available as distance education. University education at Marseille is highly developed.
