Marseille possesses 16 arrondissements. They have been re-divided into 8 sectors with two in each of the group. There are mayors who look after the administration of each of the sectors. A total of 25 cantons were created in 2003 under the Marseille arrondissement. These are looked after by individual General Councilors.
There are a total of 16 Marseille arrondissement. The various arrondissements are again divided into 111 quartiers. The 16 arrondissement of Marseille have been re-organized into 8 sectors with two in each group. Each of the 8 sectors is looked after by individual mayors. These sectors have their own town hall as well as council.
There are about a total of 303 councilors whose election is carried out by the sector. Amongst these councilors, one-third sits on the city council and the rest two-thirds sits on the sector councils. The mayors of the sectors of Marseille are as follows:
- 1st sector, which is composed of 1st and 7th arrondissements, has Jean Roatta as its mayor.
- 2nd sector, which is composed of 2nd and 3rd arrondissements, has Lisette Narducci as its mayor.
- 3rd sector, which is composed of 4th and 5th arrondissements, has Bruno Gilles as its mayor.
- 4th sector, which comprises of 6th and 8th arrondissements, has got Dominique Tian as its mayor.
- 5th sector, which is composed of 9th and 10th arrondissements, has Guy Teissier as its mayor.
- 6th sector, which comprises 11th and 12th arrondissements, has Roland Blum as its mayor.
- 7th sector, composed of 13th and 14th arrondissements has Garo Hovsepian as its mayor.
- 8th sector, composed of 15th and 16th arrondissements has Frederic Dutoit as its mayor.
