International School of Lyon was established in the month of March in 2004. It is one of the authorized IB diploma schools of the world. The school is a member of the Council of International Schools. The founding members of this non-profit educational institute are Lafarge, BayerCrop Science, Renault Trucks, Monsanto and Merial.
International School, Lyon follows a curriculum that is based on the programs of the International Baccalaureate Organization. There are classes from Kindergarten to High school. The school operates five days in a week from 8:30 am to 3:10 pm. Admission in this school can be sought on the completion of 4 years. A minimum knowledge in English is required for getting admission at the secondary level.
The International School in Lyon divides education into three levels:
- Kindergarten and Primary school
- Middle school
- High school
At the Kindergarten and Primary level, the students are taught language, social studies, science, mathematics, drama, music, physical education, science and technology. Besides, they are taught French language and have access to computers.
The curriculum in Middle School includes an in-depth study of various subjects. Homework is given on a regular basis. The various subjects taught at this level are English as the native or ‘first’ language, French as the foreign language or English as a second language for non-native speakers,social studies, mathematics,

visual arts and music, physical education, integrated science, technology and ICT.
High School is meant for students of IX, X, XII and XII standards. At the end of Class X, the students have to sit for IGCSE examinations. The High School covers subjects like coordinated science, history, geography, mathematics, visual arts, English as the native or ‘first’ language including literature, French and/or English as a second language for non-native speakers. IB Diploma program is followed at the XI and XII standard. It includes six academic subjects, compulsory participation in extra-curricular activities (Creativity, Action and Community Service) and an interdisciplinary course in critical thinking known as the ‘Theory of Knowledge’.
There are also several after-school activities conducted by Lyon International School that includes arts, sports and community service. It takes place from Monday to Thursday. The various facilities provided to the students are:
