Lyon is one of the significant cities of France. It is located in the central-east part of France and also is the capital of the Rhone-Alps region. Commune of Lyon is divided into 9 arrondissements. Lyon Administration includes the Municipal Council or City Council of Lyon and the Lyon Municipality.

Municipal Council or City Council of Lyon

The Municipal Council of Lyon is represented by the city Mayor. The current mayor of Lyon is Gerard Collomb. All representatives are elected for 6 years by common suffrage. The key functions of the city council are as follows:
  • Election of the city councilor/representative/mayor and his deputies
  • Vote for the budget that is prepared by the municipal mayor
  • Development and systemization of Municipal services
  • Designating representatives for respective posts in different organizations and institutions within the city.

Lyon Municipality

Lyon Municipality is administered by the city mayor and the deputy, who are elected for 6 consecutive years. Mayor of Lyon is responsible for playing dual role of the ‘Executive Officer’ and the role of the ‘Commune and Public Official’.

On one hand, he is responsible for preparing the annual municipal budget, administering communal properties and signing contracts related to the sales, constructions and other expenditures. On the other hand, as a Municipal Judge, he also acts as the supervisor of the staffs of the municipality. In Lyon Municipality, decision on various issue are taken which includes certificates of urbanism, demolition permits, subdivision permits and Building permits.
