Amiens

Amiens is prefecture of the Somme departement. The city is known as the Picarde capital of France. The main centrepiece of the city is the Gothic Cathedral that was built between 1220 and 1270. The city iss also known for its studenty atmosphere. Amiens suffered serious damage during World War I and World War II. The city was the central settlement of the Ambiani (one of the principal tribes of Gaul). Also, the first identified site of the Paleolithic culture named Acheulean was Saint-Acheul located in Amiens.

From Paris Gare du Nord, tourists can reach Amiens by train SNCF or TGV. Paris - Lille and Paris - Calais trains have a stoppage at Amiens. By car A1, A16, A26-A29 and A28-A16 routes can be taken.
