Helsinki Sports is managed by Sports Department, which takes care of about 70 sports halls, some 350 sports fields and up to 200 km of ski tracks. Through out the year the Sports Department arranges the activities, which includes those for children, young adults as well as seniors.

Helsinki hosted the Summer Olympics in the year of 1952. Hosting the Olympics was a landmark in the field of international sports for the country. Helsinki is the first city to host the World Championships in Athletics of the year of 1983. The city hosed the event for the second time in the year of 2005.
