The city council has the responsibility of appointing the Mayor of Helsinki. Appointed for a period of seven years since June 1, 2005, the present mayor of Helsinki is Jussi Pajunen. He served as an active member of the city council for a term of eight years and was also appointed the chairman of the city board for the period of two years from 2003 to 2005.
He persued his graduation from Helsinki school of Economics and Business administration in the year 1977. Consecutively, he completed his masters degree in Economics from the same institution. Further, he completed his MBA from INSEAD in Ranska in the year 1980.
