Birth place of pioneers in the field of engineering, science and humanities, Helsinki is the native place of architects and scientists like Alvar Aalto, Zacharias Topelius, Linus Benedict Torvalds, Zacharias Topelius, Carl Ludwig Engel and Jean Sibelius.   • Mika Waltari- He was a historical novelist known for his pioneering excellence in the creation of Magnum opus called The Egyptian. . Ragnar Granit-Born in the year 1900, his full name was Ragnar Arthur Granit. He expired in the year 1991, but is still revered for his theories in psychology. He was also the recipient of the
    Nobel Prize in the year 1967.
  • Esa-Pekka Salonen-Born in 1958, he is a revered orchestral conductor and music composer. Presently working as the music director for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, he has created masterpieces that have become popular throughout the world.
  • Tarja Halonen- Born in the year 1943, she is the current President of Finland and is considered to be the first woman to hold office of such importance in Finland.
