Addis Ababa University is one of the oldest educational institutes in the capital city of Ethiopia. Established in 1950 as the University College of Addis Ababa, the name of the university was changed to Selassie I University in 1962. However, the final name was changed to Addis Ababa University in 1975 and it is the same to the present day.
Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia is governed by two bodies, namely The Senate and The Board of Governors. The President and the Vice-President are the ruling heads of the university. However, there are deans and head of departments in the various schools of the university.
The university offers Diplomas, Degrees at the Bachelors and Masters Level, MD, DVM, PhD Degree programs and Specialty Certificates to the students on successful completion of the programs, in which they are enrolled. There are regular classes, evening classes as well as summer programs that are there for the convenience of the students.
