The Popularly known as Arat Kilo, the Meyazia 27 Square is a popular tourist destination in Addis Ababa. The name Meyazia 27 Square not only means the square but it also depicts the surrounding and nearby districts of Addis Ababa. The '27' in the name of the place is representative of the date in the Ethiopian calendar, when Addis Ababa was captured by the Fascists as well as the day when Emperor Haile Selassie returned victorious to his capital city in Ethiopia.
Meyazia 27 Square in Addis Ababa actually marks the triumph of the Ethiopian forces against the Italian forces. The original monument had a carving of the Emperor Haile Selassie with the national flag in his hand. This was totally altered during the regime of Dergue. The sculpture was represented as a guerrilla fighter holding the national flag.

However the monument was brought back to its original form with the Emperor's face restored back to the monument in the EPRDF regime.

Meyazia 27 Square, Addis Ababa is frequented by many foreign dignitaries and officials, who pay tribute to the monument during their state visits. The place is the venue for celebrating the Victory day Celebrations in the country.
