Addis Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia. Since the city is the political and cultural hub of the country, people from different backgrounds and cultures come and settle in this city. As a result, there is no particular language of Addis Ababa. There are many ethnic groups in the city too, who have their individual languages, culture and customs. Some of the most popular languages that are spoken in the city are:

- Amharic

Among all these languages, Amharic is the most widely spoken language at Addis Ababa. Majority of the ethnic groups in the city converse in this language. Apart from that, Sidamo is another popular language that is spoken in the city. This is actually an Afro-Asiatic language that belongs to the Cushitic Branch. This language is predominant in parts of Southern Ethiopia.
Sidamo language in Addis Ababa has been influenced by Amharic and Ge'ez vocabularies and has enriched the Oromo vocabulary to a great extent.
