Abiyatta Lakes National Park is located 200 kilometers south of Addis Ababa in the Great Rift Valley. The park was created to protect the aquatic birdlife of the place. Abiyatta and the Shalla are the two lakes situated in the park. These lakes and the surrounding areas of the national park are habitat of different species of birds. The Abiyatta Lake is deep and shallow among the Rift Valley lakes. The lake is situated amidst acacia woodlands and gentle grass covered slopes.
