San Salvador

San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador. Founded in the 16th century, in the colonial town of Suchitoto, it was relocated twice. San Salvador, a modern city is the second biggest city in Central America. By the 20th century, its population began to rise and has developed much becoming a home to the world's second largest congregation, Iglesia Elim Central. As the inhabitants deserted the city in order to avoid Spanish rule, nothing much is known about this city.

Area & Location: Located 13º41' Latitude North and 89º11' Longitude West, San Salvador covers a total area of 886.15 sq. km. The city is home to 2,224,223 of its residents. The 89% of its population include mestizo, a mix of Indigenous & European ancestry.

Tourist Attractions: As a beautiful place with many historical landmarks, San Salvador pulls to it millions of visitors from far and wide.

Transportation: The city is the transportation hub of the country. Comalapa International Airport that handles all domestic and international flights serves the city. The highways and arterial roads provide a relief to the increased traffic in the city. The Pan-American Highway that passes through the city connects it with other areas in Central America and US.
