Tell Mokdam is located around 40 km southeast of Tanta and on the right hand bank of Damietta. It is basically a big debris marking the Leontopolis site. There are several buildings in Tanta that include a temple established by Osorkon II. The buildings were entirely destroyed in the later periods.
The place has also gained popularity for housing an important university and for providing a good number of transportation facilities to the international tourists. This major Egyptian tourist destination of Tanta is also known as an university town and assists its pupils in their higher educational qualification.
Moroever, it is also considered to be the seat of a major metropolitan of Coptic Church and houses the precious museum of Tanta that has a rich collection since the Pharaonic period to the present day.
