The sights, smells and sounds of Egyptian life can be best absorbed in the Cairo market places. There are numerous goods made of local materials like rugs, carpets, shoes and garments that attract the visitors from all across the globe. The most desired commodities for shopping in Cairo include lovely carpets, fashionable shoes, furnitures, books and beautiful veils. Visiting the camel bazaar or souq al-gamal, as it is locally called, is a great experience for the tourists. This market is held every Friday beyond Sharia Sudan in the west of Cairo. The market is very short termed and most of the transactions are finished by early morning. Wekalet al-Balah is famous for fabrics in Egyptian cotton. The Tent makers' Bazaar offers lovely appliqué work. Mohamed Ali Street in Cairo is known for its stores selling different types of Egyptian musical instruments, while shops in Mahmoud Abd El Ghaffar in the Khan Al-Khalili sell ornate and colorful dance costumes. The tourists enjoy Cairo shopping to the fullest purchasing goods of superior quality at a very reasonable price.
