Dahshur is in the southernmost region of the Memphis Necropolis and includes several pyramid complexes and monuments of historical importance. Until 1996, the area was a military zone and as a result visitors were not allowed but recently, the area has been opened to the tourists. The area is very peaceful and tranquil as it is not as developed commercially as Giza.
Snofru (2613-2589 BC) was the first Pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, who took monument building to a new height. Without the mention of Snorfu the discussion on Dahshur in Cairo is incomplete. Initially Snofru completed his father's pyramid and then built his own

step pyramid at Meidum. He built another pyramid the famous "Red Pyramid" (named so because of the red limestone that was used in its construction), which was about two kilometers to the north.
Apart from the pyramids built by Snorfu there are many other monuments in Dahshur at Cairo. Some of the other major monuments built at Dahshur dating back to the to the 12th and 13th dynasties, are the Black Pyramid of Amenemhet III, the White Pyramid of Amenemhet II, and the Pyramid of Senusret III. There are other smaller monuments built by minor rulers, nobles, and officials that foretell the calm and peaceful period in Egypt's history.
