Bilbeis

The city of Bilbeis is a beautiful place in the country of Egypt. This city is situated in the eastern part of the Southern delta of the River Nile. Bilbeis is known as a very well guarded city in ancient Egypt. Though the defense system of the city was well developed, yet Bilbeis could not resist the invasion of the Muslim rulers.

The Muslim army used to halt at the city of Bilbeis while traveling to Palestine during the time of the Crusaders. During the rule of Baybars, a barrage was constructed at the gateway of Bilbeis city. Tourists can also visit the famous Emir el-Geish Mosque in Bilbeis. This ancient mosque was constructed in the year 640, but this magnificent structure had to be renovated in 1593. In 1798, initiatives were taken by Napoleon to restore the forts in the city of Bilbeis

Bilbeis is one of the major destinations of Egypt. The city has acquired an important place in the history of Egypt. The city is known for the tragic Massacre at Bilbeis. Many people got killed in this incident. This enraged the local people, who turned against the Crusaders. Even, the Coptic Christians refused to side with the Crusaders.
