Beni Suef




The city of Beni Suef in Egypt has a population of 150, 000. The city spreads over an area of 10954k/m2 and is 121 km away from Cairo. At the four liminos are El Giza, El Minya, El Fayom and El Suize which are located at a distance of 109 km, 120 km, 450 km and 45 km respectively.


Beni Suef is the capital of the Beni Suef governorate which comprise of 225 villages and seven centers for administration. It was initially a small village which has turned into an important center for agriculture. The governorate logo contains a Maydom pyramid's picture which indicates the origin of the Beni Suef civilization. The chimney indicated the governorate's involvement with industrial activities. The waves, shown in the bottom of the logo, refer to the Beni Suef Bridge. Since middle ages, Beni Suef is a fast growing manufacturer of linen. It is quite famous for its carpet making and cotton spinning. Besides, the city is greatly known for the Museum. There are statues, Sarcophagi, jars that contained organs of embalmed bodies and other items that belonged to the Greek and Roman period. All these things are kept in the first floor of the museum, while the second floor displays things that have Musim and Coptic relevance and have been brought from the Egyptian museum at Cairo.
