QUITO

Quito is the capital city of Ecuador. The city was founded by 204 settlers and Sebastián de Benalcázar on December 6, 1534. It was named a city on March 14, 1541. It received the title "Muy Noble y Muy Leal ciudad de San Francisco de Quito" which means "Very Noble and Loyal City of San Francisco of Quito" on February 14, 1556. With the independence of Republic of Eucador in 1830, Quito became the capital of the nation.



Area & Location: Situated in the northwestern South America, the city lies in the northern Eucador. Having an elevation of 9,300 ft above sea level, the city is considered as the second highest capital city in the world. It occupies a total area of 290 sq. km and has a population of 1,865,541 with a density of 4,800 per sq. km, making it the second most populous city in the country.

Tourist Attractions: With a cool climate, the city invites visitors to it. Besides this, the museums and parks make the city a favorite haunt for the tourists.

Transportation: Mariscal Sucre International Airport the main airport serves the city. The trolleybuses inside the city help people to travel within the city limits without getting trapped in the traffic jam. Taxis and buses are the other main transport in the city.
