Cotopaxi is world's highest active volcano. Its economy is based on various industries like mining and manufacturing apart from services, and agriculture. Crude petroleum, bananas, flowers and fish are chief export items. It is surrounded by Colombia to the north and Peru to the east and south. The Pacific Ocean is located to its west. Galapagos Islands are also included in this country. Ecuador was part of the Inca Empire.

  • Guayaquil: Guayaquil's root can be found in Inca period. It is the main port and major commercial center of Ecuador. Sugar, metallurgy, machine trade, tanneries, sawmills, and shrimp farming are some of the major commercial sectors of this city.
  • Quito: Quito is the capital of Ecuador. The origin of Quito dates back to Quitu period. It has several cathedrals and the largest urban park of South America. It is a historical and cultural center of Ecuador. It has several universities and houses a prosperous handicraft market.
  • Cuenca: Cuenca has preserved many colonial monuments. Agrarian products, cattle, marble, Panama hats, textiles, lace, leather goods, jewelry, and food are its important commercial products.
