Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark. The city made up of 16 municipalities is the largest city in the country. This Danish name was derived from a Danish word Kjøbmandehavn that means "merchants' harbor". It is also the name of the adjacent county. It is one of the three Danish municipalities that are not part of any county. A toll bridge that was opened in the year 2000 to link the cities of Copenhagen and Malmö allows the passage of rail and road passengers. This has enhanced the city of Copenhagen making it the center of a larger metropolitan area. The municipal seat of government is the Copenhaen City Hall. Located on 55°43' Latitude North and 12°34' Longitude East, Copenhagen has a population of 501,158.
