Zagreb Zoo is located on the southern side of Maksimir Park. The Zoo in Zagreb remains open on all days from 9.00 hours to 20.00 hours in summer and from 9.00 hours to 16.00 hours in winters. The Zoo is accessible by trams, buses and trains. Zagreb Zoo in Croatia is located in the downtown locality of the capital city and is easily commutable from Ban Jelacic Square.
This zoo, though not very large, is well laid out. Most of the animals are kept outdoors in island enclosures. Birds are kept in cages inside buildings or outdoors. The open bird enclosures also have kangaroos. Penguins and otters are kept together in an island enclosure.

Zagreb Zoo in Maksimir Park also has a 'savannah' or tropical grassland enclosure. It contains African herbivores like antelopes, deer, camel and so on. African elephants and hippopotamus can also be seen in Zagreb zoo. Snow leopard and Siberian tigers are also kept as exhibits.
